windows cannot calculate the effective permissions for user
Posted by novarallyman@zoom.co.uk on November 22nd, 2006

I have an issue where several users are unable to get into directories
that they apparently have rights to. In each instance, when the user
can not obtain access to the directory, if I try to calculate effective
permissions on the folder, I get the error message "windows cannot
calculate the effective permissions for .....".

Inevery instance so far that I have tried, if I copy the user to a new
user with all of their permissions, then the new user does not have a
problem. Also there may me 50 users in a group, but only one or two of
them will have a problem.

The problem is not restricted to a single directory or group, it is
spread across the file structure. This has occured after migrating the
data from Netware 6.1 to Windows 2003.

I have seen post regarding this message and it being related to
encripted files or folders. I do not beleive we have anything
encrypted, and if we did. wouldn't it affect all?

Any ideass out there ?

Thanks
Colin
