- Windows installer fails after SP1
- Posted by dwhagerman on December 22nd, 2005
Found quite a few posts about this, but no definate answer that I've seen.
After installing SP1, 90% or more of installs silently fail with only this
event logged.
Faulting application msiexec.exe, version 3.1.4000.1433, faulting module
unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x000d577e.

I would try to reinstall the Windows Installer as per the following MS KB
article:

I've done that. Like I said, I've done EVERYTHING I can find on the internet,
and nothing has helped (which seems to be the case with all the others I've
seen)

Hello,
Thanks for posting!
Based on my research the issue may occur if Windows Server 2003 Beta
Version of SP1 has been installed. I suggest you uninstall the SP1 and
install the full version of Windows Server 2003 SP1.
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (32 bit)

Hope the information helps.

Jason,
Thank you! I did have the beta SP1 installed. Installed the latest version
of SP1, and seems to be working fine now. Just an FYI though, the link you
have posted does not work.
Thanks again,
Daryl
