- WSUS - Will Visual Studio 2005 SP1 be available to push out
- Posted by Vincent Xu [MSFT] on January 4th, 2007
Hi,
FYI that so far there is no official ship date for Visual Studio 2005
SP1.See Soma¡¯s blog for the closest we have to an official timeframe for
release which is 3-4 months after the Beta shipped at the end of September.

Hope this helps.
Best regards,

You have confused me even more. Visual Studio 2005 SP1 has already shipped.
What I'm wondering is if I have to have my developers download and install it
or will I be able to push this update out through WSUS. Any idea? Thank you.

Hi,
Sorry for the outdated information.
To your questions, generally speaking the WSUS server will include almost
all the updates.
However you must select the option in the WSUS to let it sync it.
The option is:
Open the WSUS admin console => Options => Synchronization options =>
Products and classifications => you can change the product and update type
there
Thanks.

So, VS 2005 SP1 will be available to deployed by WSUS.
If you want to creat a report of the installed auto client patches, you can
use WSUS Reporting Rollup Sample Tool. This tool uses the WSUS application
programming interface (API) to demonstrate centralized monitoring and
reporting for WSUS
thanks.

I just searched All Updates/All Approvals/Synchronized Any
Time/Contains=Visual Studio and VS 2005 SP1 has not been downloaded to my
WSUS 2.0.0.2620 server. I would have to conclude that VS 2005 SP1 has not
been fielded via Windows Update Services. It might be available as part of
the individual user Microsoft Update services, but when I finally upgraded
my PIII to XP Pro last weekend, it didn't appear there either.
There is a VS 2005 security update in WSUS, so I know that my WSUS Server is
receiving VS 2005 updates.
