Add/remove programs not accessible in XP
Posted by Allen on October 25th, 2003

For some reason, I am not able to access the add/remove
programs function in control panel. The icon is not there
in classic view. It is there in XP view, but doesn't do
anything when I click on it. I've gotten suggestions to
get/replace "appwiz.cpl" but I'm not sure as my online
searches say it's only for Windows 95/98.

Any suggestions?

Hello Allen,

I suggest you do a System File Check via

[Start]
| Run... |
SFC /SCANNOW
[OK]

System File Checker (sfc) Scans and verifies the
versions of all protected system files.

Have your XP CD handy.

On my machine it took more than ten minutes for tests
to be completed.

For further details,
[Start] | Help and Support | SFC [Enter]
