I can open control panel, and most tasks in CP, but Add and Remove Programs
won't open. I get an hourglass cursor, but then it disappears and task
doesn't open.

I've tried the "show me' link in support, same non-action for opening Add
and Remove.

Any ideas any one?

Win XP sp2, Dell Dimension 512 RAM 80Mb HD virus and spyware checks clean.

In run,type:appwiz.cpl This open add/remove,if still a problem,in run
type:cmd
In cmd type:Sfc /Scannow Install xp cd,exit the menu.When its thru,type:
CHKDSK C: /F Agree,type:EXIT Remove cd,restart pc.Upon opening xp,retry

I found other posts last night that mentioned running regsvr32 appwiz.cpl so
I tried that. The Finish screen said it was successfull, but I still couldn't
get Add / Remove to open. (It's wierd the icon, the icon looks grayed out, so
do some other icons in control panel).

I'll try your steps.
