Can't dial contact numbers using OUTLOOK
Posted by CDavey on May 26th, 2005

I have a problem that has been driving me nuts for months. When I try to
dial an OUTLOOK contact using my USR external modem, I get a message stating
that another program is using the modem and I should try again later. As far
as I know there is no other program that is using the modem, and I'm
wondering if there is a program that will tell me what is tying up the modem.

Alternatively (until I can solve the problem) I need to know how to
configure my little wireless network so that the desktop will use the
Laptop's modem to dial out.

Any help will be muich appreciated!

Try internet options in control-panel,set up a new connection, the wizard will
guide you thru, also if youre running SP2,you probably need to open a port
in firewall,exceptions.

Well, Andrew and Russ, I can't begin to tell you how delighted I am to report
that the upgrade to XP Pro (from Home) that I did yesterday solved this
age-old problem! I have no idea what the problem was, and I hope I never see
it again. I do have a backup.

Thanks for your help!!!

Now, what's next?
