- DISC SPACE LOW
- Posted by TONYA MEEKER on October 19th, 2003
I INITIALLY HAD WINDOWS 98 ON MY NEC LAPTOP BUT I UPGRADED TO XP PRO AND
EVER SINCE THE I CONSTANTLY GET LOW DISC SPACE MESSAGES AND BACKUP DISABLED
BECAUSE MEMORY SPACE IS LOW, CAN I DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS....
ALSO, WHEN I EXPLORE MY COMPUTER THERE ARE A LOT OF FILES WITH WEIRD NAMES
CONTAINING NUMBERS, LETTERS, OR A COMBINATIOIN OF THE 2, BUT NO REAL WORDS.
THESE FILES DISPLAY IN A DIFFERENT COLOR ALSO...COULD THAT HAVE ANYTHING TO
DO WITH MY PROBLEM??? CAN I DELETE THEM?

Go to run,type:cmd
At the curser type:CHKDSK C: /R
Agree to restart, then type:EXIT Reboot computer.
Dont delete,send to my documents,create a folder,put them
in there for now,L.click the file,in sub-menu,move this
file, scroll to new folder.Do after the CHKDSK,if still
there.Asumeing the disk space is ok,open my computer,
chk the disk,R.click my computer, properties, details of
memory are listed,256mb is borderline.
