Assuming there is a wireless adapter installed to the desktop, check the
directions in the router manual for setting it up wirelessly. Most of the
routers that I've used suggest going wired for the initial setup and then
switching to wireless; however some do allow a wireless setup. The
necessary info (log on etc.) will be in the manual.
You still need something feeding an internet connection to the router which
will in turn route that connection to the wired or wireless computers that
were defined/allowed during the router's setup.
NOTE: When setting up wired, the ethernet port is supplied by/is a part of
the NIC (network interface card). When setting up wireless, there is no
physical ethernet port - communication takes place over the air.
