i hope someone is helpful... my windows xp needs to be
activated but i have no packaging for it, hence no product
key... (parents gave me computer and have no records) i've
called the 800 number and was told i need to buy a new
software... is this true? otherwise, can i just uninstall
my windows xp? the comp. originally had 98... when i turn
it on my only options are to activate or shut off the
comp. i can't log on or anything. please help!

If you feel too troublesome to repair XP. Backward to W98 is simple way; as
you have the software. Or if you have Wme also good.
What you have to do is reformat your harddisk. Because XP uses NTFS or FAT32
format. So sometime you may get problem unable totally low format it.
More important is: try to Fdisk it first. The best is change the partition's
size; that may able to sway some hidden files created by MS for system.Then
format it for FAT32, that will able to run in W98.
