- IE/WE error windows clear automatically

When I receive any error messages from IE or Windows
Explorer (like when trying to ftp a file and I get a
permission error, or trying to open a corrupted file),
the error popup window appears only briefly and is
cleared automatically (before I can click 'OK').
This doesn't happen with another user I have created on
the system. What is causing this and how do I resolve it?
