If you had an XP CD you could run a repair install. However, with a
recovery CD your options are limited to the procedures of your vendor's
recovery routine. I'm not sure what you mean by having "tried to run
application" from your vendor's recovery disk but if you didn't run the
recovery routine which likely will wipe your hard drive, you should try
running recovery. If you did and that is producing the error as well, then
you need to contact your vendor and discuss this issue with them.
