- My comp no longer recognizes my cd rom
- Posted by Steve on September 22nd, 2004
In an attempt to back up some files, I have a CD-RW
inserted into the drive but my computer doesn't recognize
it. I have tried multiple CD's but it tells me to insert
a CD into the drive. I do have it in the correct drive
and none of the CD's have information on them as of yet.
Ideas?

If you are trying to save or drag and drop directly to CD, this is known as
packet writing and XP does not support that function natively. This
requires third party software such as the Direct CD component of Easy CD
Creator, www.roxio.com or the InCD component of Nero, www.nero.com.
Check the web sites for version compatibility with XP as well as compatible
CD-Writers.
