- Network Connection Icons Missing

Has anyone had this problem.
Recently for no reason the network connection icons in
the sys tray will not show.
I have set the system not to hide any icons in the system
tray throgh start->properties->task bar and also enables
the icons in the network connection properties windows.
They sometimes appaer when I reboot and then sometimes
they dont. Could there be something interfering or
conflicting with them? Running XP home
