Password Problems
Posted by William Talbert on July 22nd, 2003

While setting up my home network, I must have accidently
set a password somewhere along the way. My other
computers cannot connect with my XP computer from Network
places because when it is tried, I am asked for a
password and I have no idea what it is.

Is there a way for me to recapture or reset my network
password on XP?

Thanks!

Did you run the Network Setup Wizard on all machines? If yes, did you make
sure all firewalls including the XP firewall were turned off during setup?
There's a place in the wizard where you are asked how this computer connects
to the Internet, the wrong answer will block access. Usually, the correct
answer is "gateway" and that response usually resolves the kind of issue you
are having. Also, in testing the network connections, did you test with all
firewalls turned off, firewalls will block access until they are set to
allow access. I can't give you instructions as they vary with different
firewalls.
