- Pop Ups/ads

How can I stop these pop up ad's from messenger service? I read the MS
'resolution" that said to install or turn on a firewall that blocks inbound
NetBIOS etc, but it doesn't say how to to do this . I have NAV but these ads
are getting through in droves. I'v had to stop three times just with this
short message. Thanks

How that's done differs by firewall. There are usually options that can be
applied, you'd have to find those on your specific firewall. NAV is not a
firewall, it is an Antivirus Application.
There are several free firewalls that can resolve this issue for you:
www.zonelabs.com
www.sygate.com
http://www.tinysoftware.com/home/tiny2?la=EN
http://www.kerio.com/kerio.html
You can check the options in any of them, their web sites and/or their tech
support for help with configuration.

Hi Sue,
Enable the Internet Connection Firewall in Windows XP:
Open Network Connections
Click the Dial-up, LAN or High-Speed Internet connection that you want to
protect, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this
connection.
On the Advanced tab, under Internet Connection Firewall, select one of the
following:
To enable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF), select the Protect my computer
and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the
Internet check box.
This blocks the TCP ports responsible for Messenger data tranmissions and
prevents Pop-ups.
