- press Start, Search

The search companion bar ,on the left hand side of the screen, is blank,
apart from a wagging dog. I have pressed view, explorer bar, search, to no
avail. How do I get the search facility to work? Do I have to reinstall
windows or is there a way of just installing the search facility on its own?
