Problems with two XP's on one drive.

This laptop has the original XP Pro. installed on it. To fix the original XP,
for too many reasons to list, I installed my own XP Pro. on the same hard
drive. The original XP is on Partition1 and my XP on Partition2. I fixed the
original XP. Then I wanted to remove the XP I installed on Partition2. I did
that leaving Partition1 intact. When I boot up the 'puter it tells me there
is no OS installed. I know the original XP and contents are in there-I can
view from "My Computer".So I reinstalled my own XP, again on Partition2 and
no problems. I do not want to remove XP on partition1, there is too much
expensive software that I don't have the disks for and there is absolutely no
drive space to backup. I need one of two things...somehow get the original
XP on Partition1 to boot after I remove my XP on Partition2. Or, somehow be
able to switch between the two. Is there a way to merge the two?The boot and
setup menus are of no help and removing XP on Partition1 is NOT an option. I
know how to switch between the two when on two seperate hard drives but this
is on one.
