Slow Performance
Posted by Yellowfrog on November 24th, 2005

Here is the thing: My computer is running unusually slow lately. The 2
areas of note are 1/ the address scroll down takes 1 to 2 minutes to show up,
and manuelly typing in the website takes the same and 2/ video streaming from
all sites is slow and "stuttering" ie. freezing in and out. Various other
areas are slow as well, such as accessing My Computer (flashlight icon waves
back and forth for several minutes) and just generally surfing from site to
site is abnormally slow. I run Windows XP, have 38 % free space on drive,
connect with high-speed cable. I have taken all of the classic steps i can
think of so far--run AVG anti-virus scan, Spybot and Adawre as well,
defragmented disk, disk clean up, removed all rarely used programs and ran
system restore wizard. (Incidentally, system restore will no longer restore
to ANY points) THE SYMPTOMS SEEM TO SUGGEST THE CLASSIC CASE OF SPYWARE
CORRUPTION OR A TROJAN HORSE OR THE LIKE. I realize this. BUT after having
done all that I have to no avail...WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE????? The symptoms
just started about 2 weeks ago. The first defragmentation and system restore
seems to fix it, but it returned a day or 2 later and now these fixes don't
work anymore. I feel I have exhausted my options. HAVE I? What else is
there to do??? Any ideas??? Please and thank you.
