Why did my laptop change to XP professional
Posted by cadan on March 27th, 2006

I have an acer laptop and it had been working on xp home edition, i deleted
one of the user accounts that wasn't being used and now it's coming up xp
professional and excel has stopped working.

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this, I haven't done anything else that I
can think of.

You cannot simply go from Home to Pro without installing the upgrade. Are
you sure of what happened?

How do you know Windows XP Pro is coming up?
That upgrade simply can not happen unless someone goes through the upgrade
process with Windows XP Pro media.

You can reinstall Excel to start with.

It's defo windows professional cos i checked the system properties so maybe
i'm gettin mixed up and it was never xp home edition lol

I defo haven't uninstalled any programmes so I don't understand why excel
won't work and keeps asking for the microsoft office disk which I never got
with the laptop.

The only thing I did was delete a user account and maybe there was something
in there that was needed.

Any more pointers for me please?!

Contact the laptop manufacturer or check your manual.
If Microsoft Office or components thereof were included, there should be a
way to reinstall.
