wpa lock out
Posted by michelle on November 3rd, 2003

i've been locked out of my windows xp for a couple of
months now. the windows product activation screen pops up
on start up and asks me if i want to activate windows.
when i click yes, it takes me to my desktop (but all it
shows is the wallpaper) and then instantly takes me back
to the start up screen. if it will not let me activate
it, then i will never be able to use my computer again.
do you think it is possible for me to get this fixed?
thank you in advance for your support. i really
appreciate it.

You need to give us a bit of history that lead up to this situation? Is this
a retail (store bought) version of XP or did it come pre-installed on the
computer? If it was pre-installed, have you contacted the manufacturer of
the PC? Did you make any hardware changes just prior to the problem
appearing?

Actually, my mom's friend put together the computer for
me. He bought the parts and put them together. I really
don't know how that goes... so I guess you can say it
came with the computer. The computer is about a year old
now. No, I haven't made any hardware changes. I don't
think I did anything wrong to it. In August, I had left
on a trip and came back at the end of the month, and this
is what happened to my computer. Please reply back.
Thanks.

Boot the system, start tapping F8, at the menu, select Safe Mode. When
presented, decline the message to go to System Restore.
Go to Start and type the following in the run box:
regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll (press Enter)

regsvr32.exe licdll.dll (press Enter)

Then try running activation again while in Safe Mode.
