XP Home Edition Spanish-version

My friend has a Dell computer with XP Home Edition. If he bought XP Home
Edition Spanish-version, how would one go about 'upgrading' to the spanish
language version?

Would he lose all his installed programs? Thanks. Scott

Scott;
Is the original Windows XP Home English?
You can not upgrade and change the language.
You need to perform a Clean Installation using a CD in the language you
want:

All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.
