XP loging into an NT Domain
Posted by Tony R. on October 20th, 2003

Hello all,

This seems to be a basic issue that I just can't find a well defined
answer for. I currently have an NT domain with NT servers and NT
workstations all running SP6a. We are (finally) starting the slow
migration to XP. Initially, I am planning on updating the workstations
first because our new machines come pre-installed with XP pro. My
problem is connecting correctly to my NT Domain.

Situation:
I have a login script that runs which the XP machine picks up and runs
certain parts of. Also, we have policy's that are set up that set up
drive mapping. When I log my XP machine onto the network, it maps two
drives out of about 6. Now, if I go to manually map a drive, I see
them already set up, but they don't show in windows explorer, etc.
Also when I boot up, XP tells me there was an issue with the network
shares.

Question (s):
1.) Is there a better way I should be logging an XP box onto an NT
domain? I know that XP uses GPE, should I attempt to make a standard
policy from my XP machine and store it on the NT server for future
machines to read from?

2.) Why can't I see the mapped drives in explorer?

3.) Anything else you can think of that would help me out!

Thank you for you help!

Tony

Since you are posting through Google, please do a search for
windowsxp.network_web and try your question there.

You have a much better chance of getting a response to this type of question
on that board.
