- Cannot Start Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS)
- Posted by GS3 on February 21st, 2008
I am trying to set up a VPN server in a computer but, in the New Connection
Wizard, when I select in the Accept Incoming Connections button and click
Next, the wizard program hangs and nothing happens. I then need to close it
and Windows Explorer (the desktop) restarts. I get no error message or
anything.
Searching around the Internet it seems the cause may be that the Routing and
Remote Access Service (RRAS) need to be running. When I try to start the RRAS
I get an error message saying that it could not start and code -2147483576.
When I go to the event log I see error 2147483720. So it seems there is a
good chance herein lies the cause of the problem.
Any ideas?

Well, after much searching and fumbling around I resolved the issue by
removing a Bluetooth adapter. I found a page which mentioned a similar
problem and mentioned this interference. Since I did not use the Bluetooth
adapter anyway I just removed it and all its virtual COM ports etc from the
Device Manager and now the RRAS is working and I was able to set up a VPN
host which is what I was trying to do. I hope this information may be of
use to others.
