- No longer able to connect to work computer from home using remotedesktop
- Posted by ssmmdd3935 on June 19th, 2008
I have two workstations at home that I use to connect to my computer
at work using remote desktop. One is a Win2000 machine. The other is
a WinXP machine. Both had be able to connect for the last two years
with no problem. Now all of a sudden I have a problem. The only
thing I've done is update them with Microsoft patches when they come
out. My work computer is WinXP.
I use Cisco VPN at home to connect. That connects fine. But when I
try to connect using Remote Desktop, I get that usual error about not
able to connect, the computer may be busy, or there may be a network
problem.
I can connect to our work Win 2003 servers with no problem!
At work, I had someone (next cubicle over) connect to my work station
with no problem. If any has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. I really,
really need to be able to connect to my work computer from home!

Well, I recreated the network connection on my work computer using the
WinXP "Create a New Connection" under network tasks, and now I can
once again connect to it with remote desktop from home. Whew! I'm
not sure what happened before because I really don't recall doing
anything to make it stop working.
