- remote desktop connection xp to vista - not working. no error
- Posted by Mentos on April 17th, 2008
hello,
from xp pro sp2, i am using remote desktop connection program (mstsc.exe
version 5.1.2600.2180). connecting to other xp machines is fine. connecting
to a vista business machine works intermittently. i dont know why.
this is what happens when it doesnt work:
when i start mstsc, the rdc front screen starts and it asks for the
computer. so i key in the IP address. after i click "conenct", the rdc front
screen disappears and nothing happens. no error message, and it doesnt
connect to the vista business machine. funny thing is i might try this 5
times and it doesnt work, and on the 6th time, it'll work! without me
changing any setting. has anyone seen this and able to help me?
regards,

I am having a similar problem. I can connect to my Vista Business office PC
from my home Xp computer.
BUT, for some reason my desktop does not look the same as when I am in the
office. Any suggestions?

well jason, you're problem was slightly different to mine since i couldnt
connect at all.
but i solved my problem when i got the latest version of mstsc.exe (version
6 i think).
hope that helps somewhat
cheers,

Thank you. I did download the newest ver6 of RDC,etc..
It probably has something to do with Vista Business since I can connect to
every other PC in the office which is Xp Pro.

Not sure what you mean when you say "for some reason my desktop does not
look the same as when I am in the office."? What's different?
