- Remoting web to home, blocked ports?
- Posted by buzzwordhere@gmail.com on November 24th, 2005
I work a help desk job with lots of down time. I've been trying to
connect to my home computer from work(with either Remote Desktop or
Remote Web Desktop). So I installed and setup everything fine, enabled
RD and disabled all firewall software, installed RWD with ISS on the
default port 80 and my computer as a DMZ(I know both are wildly unsafe
but I just wanted to eliminate all possible problems before making
secure.).
>From 2 other locations my RD works fine, as does my Remote web desktop.
However at work neither seem to function. The RD times out, while the
Remote web will find the login screen of my comp, but when i press
connect i get the "The client could not establish a connection to the
remote computer..."
So my question is, do you think i can tweak Remote web desktop so that
I can connect from work? I'm pretty sure the reason it's not working
is that port 3389 might be blocked at my work. That would explain why
plain RD does not work.
I know my browser goes through a websense proxy, but I really don't
think it's the proxy, plus if I change the proxy settings and try to go
to a website it asks for a websense logon.
So for the purpose is of running RWD....is there a way to change the
port that Remote Desktop runs under(the 3389)? Any ideas?
